Pinterest is probably my favorite social media platform for marketing pretty much anything:
Physical products (handmade, vintage, print on demand, books)
Printables & digital downloads (targeting personal use clients, or other businesses)
Getting traffic to a blog post or to a video.
I had just released a FULL Pinterest deep dive video on Patreon (for Patrons only), but thought it would be nice to take some of the BEST moments and tips I had on it for the FREE audience as well… so there it is - Tips, best practices, and some personal suggestions for using Pinterest:
#1 - Get a Business account
A lot of people don’t know if to get a business or personal account on Pinterest.
Some rumors are that personal accounts get better traction, but that’s not true. it’s also risky using a personal account for business activities, as Pinterest will notice the volume of pins and that they come from the same source.
USE a BUSINESS account for business-
It will give you access to Pinterest analytics, the ability to link your website, and ads if you chose to work with those in the future.
#2 - UPLOAD your pins (don’t just pin from a website)
Create an interesting design for a pin, made yourself, with the size of 1000x1500 pixels. Do NOT pin directly from Society6, RedBubble, Zazzle, or your own website.
Fill out the entire information form and provide your own link.
#3 - DESIGN with templates & care
If you’re not an expert in graphic layouts- use templates to design your pins.
You have a world of Pinterest pin templates on Canva, and on Kittl I myself added some Pinterest templates.
You can check out my templates for Kittl HERE (affiliate link. Yes, you need to give a disclaimer everywhere, not just on Pinterest LOL)
And here are 3 videos in which I shared design techniques for pins with Kittl:
1. Designing a Pinterest pin on Kittl as a part of the Creative Fabrica Spark AI tutorial
2. Designing a pin with Kittl as a part of the Night Cafe AI video
3. Designing pins with Kittl from the kittl AI first tutorial, featuring several items from Teepublic
#4 - Affiliate disclaimer is a MUST!
Speaking of that affiliate disclaimer… If you’re promoting an affiliate link on Pinterest add a disclaimer in text, or #affiliate to your upload. it’s an FTC violation not to do so.
#5 - Place the RIGHT link to each PIN!
If the pin design is for a blog post it cannot link to a product !
If the pin design is for a product don’t link to your shop’s home page!
here are several examples of the same DESIGN, but with different pins:
#6 - Use Carousel pins-
As a way to share multiple items of the same design, multiple angles of one item, or an explanation about an item:
#7 - Create IDEA pins! (Videos)
You can create video mockups on PlaceIt, take videos of the products yourselves, or create them in a SLIDE on Canva:
#8 - USE Pinterest !
Explore your own niche,
Have a private board in which you pin design inspiration, or even Pinterest pin layout inspiration, share publicly pins that fits your audience, and comment a GENUINE comment to other pins in your niche.
(If you can’t find a genuine comment to give people in your niche… Maybe you’re in the wrong niche??)
#9 - Learn from your Analytics!
Make sure to check your analytics, However- do not obsess over them.
I recommend checking your Analytics at the last few days of each month… and if you’ve just started an account now- wait until the end of next month to check them.
Analytics can shed light on what products are preforming better, or what Pin design style preforms better… But if you’ve used Pinterest for just few days and have 30 pins- there is not enough data to learn from.
Note:
Impressions: the number of times someone saw your pin when looking at a mass amount of pins on Pinterest.
Pin Clicks: when someone chooses your pin to view it bigger.
Outbound clicks: when someone clicks on your link to see the page you’ve linked to that pin.
#10 - Use Pinterest trends!!
The most valuable tool you’ll even find for Pinterest marketing is at https://trends.pinterest.com !!
Discover what’s trending in general, and how to better focus your keywords.
This might even show you, if you have 4 niches for example, what niche is best for you to use Pinterest to promote.
#11 - MOCKUPS mockups MOCKUPS!
Visuals are EVERYTHING on Pinterest, and it’s crucial to use the right ones!
Not just default images from your provider….
Here are 3 videos about mockups that might be useful:
1. Canvy - for wall art mockups full walk through video
2. Mockup Mark for tshirts
3. Kittl Mockups
Why I love Pinterest ?
Pinterest pins have a longer shelf-life than Instagram posts/reels or tiktoks.
They don’t just stop getting traffic after a few days.
When someone re-pins from you- the pin stays on their board!
Unlike if someone likes your Instagram post and post it to their story for 24 hours.
I personally work better from my Laptop than from a phone.
And even though Pinterest has an amazing mobile app- other platforms don’t have such a good desktop version.
When you market in a platform- you live in it. And I found that for my mental health- living on Pinterest makes me feel better than living on Instagram. Less time goes to waste, less friends or celebs to check in on that pop in your feed, and def less distracting ads!
I would love your comments on ANYTHING Pinterest related… What is your biggest pain point with Pinterest? Or your best tip to share with others?
Enjoy your day, have fun marketing with Pinterest- or any other platform!
